Fully funded scholarships for South Asian students
“Fully funded” means tuition, a living allowance and usually travel are covered — you can study abroad without a loan. These awards are competitive, but each one wants a recognisable profile. Match yours to theirs and your odds rise sharply.
How to read this list

Which award fits which profile?
You have 2+ years of work experience and a social or policy goal
Chevening and Commonwealth are built for you. Both reward a clear plan to apply your degree back home. Your essays should read like a short project proposal: the problem, your track record, how the UK degree fills the gap, and what you will do on return.
You are a top academic heading for research
Rhodes, Gates Cambridge, Clarendon and DAAD research awards care most about intellectual depth. Publications, research assistantships, olympiad results or strong theses matter. Your referees must be specific about your ability, so choose those who know your work closely.
You are finishing Class 12 or a bachelor’s and want a full degree abroad
Government programmes like MEXT, Global Korea, Türkiye Bursları and Stipendium Hungaricum fund full undergraduate degrees. They often include a language preparation year — treat that as a bonus, because graduating with a second language makes you far more employable.
You want flexibility across Europe
Erasmus Mundus joint master’s programmes let you study in two or three countries. There are many consortia; pick two or three whose curriculum truly matches your goal and write a tailored motivation letter for each.
The five things every winning application shares
- Fit over prestige. They apply where their profile matches the award’s stated values.
- Evidence of leadership. Not titles — initiatives they started and results they can measure.
- A precise goal. “Work in public health” loses to “reduce maternal anaemia in district hospitals through supply-chain fixes”.
- Strong, specific references. Referees briefed with a one-page summary of what to highlight.
- Early preparation. Tests, transcripts and university offers organised months ahead. Use our backward planner.
Budget for the gaps
Even fully funded awards may not cover pre-departure costs such as test fees, document attestation, a visa health surcharge or your first weeks of rent before the stipend arrives. Plan a small buffer — our study-abroad cost estimator shows the non-tuition costs.
